MRM Launches "Risk Management Rounds" Program

Friday, October 01, 2004: Medical Risk Management, LLC, a leader in medical liability risk management program development for physicians, hospitals and other healthcare providers recently launched a new risk management program, " Risk Management Rounds". This novel program has been designed to assist physician groups and other healthcare organizations in utilizing specialty specific clinical and administrative case studies to improve patient safety, reduce malpractice exposure and improve overall documentation.

“Numerous studies in the medical literature support MRM’s contention that in excess of 40-70% of medical malpractice claims filed are avoidable if systematic risk management programs are in place” reports Kevin Kelly, MRM’s President. “Risk Management Rounds” is a unique program designed to educate physicians in an “open setting” utilizing redacted case studies representative of system gaps or lapses that result in medical malpractice claims. The program combines the traditional “grand rounds” approach that physicians are accustomed to with a focused quasi peer review environment. "Risk Management Rounds" is an interactive process. The “Grand Rounds” approach targets selected cases from physician offices and hospital settings that are in the general clinical category of the types of cases most vulnerable to claims. These cases are carefully developed to simulate actual situations that the clinical specialist would be exposed to. MRM integrates best practices into the educational experience and allows the physician group to incorporate those practices into their daily activities.

The goal of this process is to increase practitioner awareness of clinical/administrative practices which are risk prone; identify best practices and vulnerable practices; and effect appropriate changes in behavior.
