Medical Risk Management, LLC Announces the Development of Informed Consent Forms for Rheumatoid Arthritis Medications

Wednesday, June 8, 2011:Hartford, CT – Medical Risk Management, LLC (MRM), a leading provider of comprehensive risk management solutions and related educational curriculum announces the development of new rheumatoid arthritis medication informed consent forms.

Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease that targets the synovial membrane. Treatment aims to prevent or control joint damage, prevent loss of movement, and decrease pain. Medication plays an essential role in controlling the progression and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, but sometimes these medications can cause serious side effects.

In an effort to assist physicians with the informed consent process while recommending arthritis medication as part of a patient’s treatment plan, MRM has developed the following medication informed consent forms: Abatacept, Arava, Cellcept, Cytoxan, Imuran, Infliximab, Methotrexate and Rituximab. Each form explains material risks, alternatives to the treatment, likely outcome if the disease is left untreated, and contradictions.

“It is important to remember that informed consent is a process by which a patient is provided with information to make an informed decision regarding the proposed treatment, and serves as a way to educate patients about their conditions, the benefits, risks and potential complications of proposed treatments as well as treatment alternatives. The consent form is used to document that the disclosure process has taken place and that the patient has authorized the treatment plan” stated Trent Sullivan, Vice President, Product Development, Medical Risk Management, LLC. “The new consent forms were developed in response to numerous requests from our clients, and we are pleased that we can deliver these new forms to effectively meet our client’s needs.”
