Medical Risk Management, LLC Achieves MOC Sponsorship Status from The American Board of Pediatrics

Monday, October 03, 2011: Hartford, CT – Medical Risk Management, LLC (MRM), a leading provider of comprehensive risk management solutions and related educational curriculum is pleased to announce that one of the nation’s largest physician certifying boards, the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP), has approved MRM as a Sponsor of Maintenance of Certification (MOC) activities.

The ABP recognizes the efforts of board certified pediatricians who imbed Quality Improvement (QI) in their day-to-day practice of medicine. As an MOC Sponsor, MRM is responsible for the design and execution of QI activities that meet the stringent standards outlined by the ABP for improving performance.

The ABP approves established, structured, and sustainable quality improvement projects. As an MOC Sponsor, MRM is responsible for the management of performance improvement projects for pediatricians with activities involved with after-hours telephone documentation. The ABP standards for MOC approval include: impact on one or more of the Institute of Medicine quality dimensions (i.e. making healthcare more safe, effective, patient-centered, timely, efficient, and equitable); relevance to physician practice; definition of project aims and completion criteria; use of standard quality improvement methods; project structure; history and results of the project, documentation of project design, processes, policies, participant activities, results; and HIPAA compliance.

“The area of after-hours telephone documentation was chosen not only because improvement in this domain impacts the quality of patient care, but also because of the medico-legal risks involved with appropriate documentation” stated Mr. Kevin Kelly, President and CEO of MRM.

Mr. Kelly went on to state, “Physicians want to deliver excellent care for their patients and programs such as these help physicians to understand where improvement is needed and gives them a structured environment to initiate positive changes while proactively reducing their risk exposures. We are proud to have achieved this MOC Sponsorship status and look forward to providing this exciting program.”
